Who'd've Predicted 70mph Winds?
Before I headed out Sunday morning, M. warned me about a forecast of 70mph winds in the canyons; I presumed that there'd be 70mph winds in other canyons, not mine. Ooops.
I'd planned to hike up to the Ski Hut yet again, Except that the usual beautiful dirt road was covered in ice and the winds were blowing at least 40mph, if not 70mph. I thought about it for a minute or two and decided that I needed neither a nasty fall on ice nor frostbite from some bit of me sticking out in the wind.
I fell back to Icehouse Canyon. Who knew, there was ice there, too. You'd never guess it from the name, eh? Lots of folks were heading up, but I just went up for about 25 minutes, and turned around. I didn't need to bother with the ice or the rest...
