Oh For Three
I had three lessons last week (Friday, Saturday, and Monday), but basically wound up flying around and around in the pattern practicing landings. I somehow couldn't bring myself to blog about my continuing series of bad landings.
And actually, they weren't all bad -- I made a few that were so smooth that I could barely feel it when we touched down -- but the problem is that I need to be consistent. I'd be better off with consistently "firm" landings than with a few great greasers and a few fairly ugly bounces.
J. suggested that I go out and watch some landings, so I spent a half an hour at Santa Monica airport watching airplanes (oh, twist my arm!), and I'm re-reading The Inner Game of Tennis. Okay, that sounds a little weird, but it's a great book on performance -- it really helped out with my autocrossing.
Plus, I'll probably watch a few instructional videos at the flight school Saturday, if I'm still having troubles after my lesson tomorrow. Who knows?
It's a little frustrating to be working and working and working on landings, but I guess I'm not that upset. Sure, it'll take a while to get right, but J. is able to provide me with analysis and suggestions, and I continue to improve...
